Her inspiration for her music is derived from her own struggle to overcome mental health problems and insomnia. According to a Reuters interview, she described the album as being half turbulent and half perfected. Her growth was aided through therapy. She also encourages her fellow singers who need help to seek help. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on July 11th, 1996. Her parents gifted her with an instrument when she was 10. It was the beginning of her journey in music. Three years later, when she was 13 years old, she started to sing her favorite tracks via YouTube. It proved to be a fantastic opportunity to show others that she possessed both ability and determination.
